April Buzz column, an Easter Basket full of New England’s local music offerings

The Easter Bunny is on her way. So too are the Easter baskets, Easter baskets full of bands, duos, trios, and soloists. After the candy has all been eaten and you’ve finished watching Charlton Heston’s Ten Commandments and Ted Neely in Jesus Christ Superstar, get your Judeo-Christian soul out to one of your favorite venues. This is America, so Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Wiccans, and Atheists too. Here are some top rated acts playing to beat the band in this glorious time of spring, renewal, and faith. And, although I’ve never written a Holy Book, below I have written onto you New Englanders plenty of local music offerings. Please enjoy reading my April Buzz column.

April 1: Gregg Perry’s Open Mic at The Dark Horse Public House, Sunday, 8:00 p.m. in Somerville, Massachusetts.

April 2: Clavis Brudon Band is at The Gardner Ale House.

April 4: CD Release Party for Harry Frazee & The Curse Of The Bambino. 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Breakaway, Danvers, Massachusetts. It’s a EP release party at Breakaway on Rt. 1 in Danvers on Wed. Apr. 4 (the night before the Red Sox home opener). It’s five baseball songs, produced by Brain Maes. Ostensibly, it’s to raise the profile of the artist’s (Dan Margarita) grandfather, Gene Mack, a longtime sports cartoonist for The Boston Globe for consideration for the Baseball HOF Spink Award for “meritorious service to baseball writing.”. Dan Margarita was in Cooperstown in January where he donated 50 old baseball photos of his father’s and the local press published an article about it. Margarita, the son who is doing the CD Release Party, used to perform stand up comedy and he’s getting some of his successful friends to help promote it. “My dad played for the Chicago bears and was on the 1946 NFL Championship team,” Margarita said, “so I do think I have a bit of a unique family sports history to talk about.”
