I’m excited about a music venue that I recently visited in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Book And Bar offers live music in their combo of bar, coffee shop, and used bookstore every weekend. The acoustics were great. The food was out of this world good. The selection of used books was impressive. Book And Bar will feature Cormac McCarthy in their room on Saturday, January 30th and White Owls in February.

We’ve restored one of the most historic spaces in downtown Portsmouth—the Custom House—and given it an old world, defiantly non-digital ambience—an old fashioned browser’s bookshop offering espresso, craft beers, and lovely small plates. We built the shelves, the bar, and the kitchen ourselves, handpicked the titles and bake the croissants each morning. We offer a wide range of live music, readings, and happenings in a beautiful, intimate setting.
