There is some news about the local New England music scene I would like to share.
The latest: Enigmatic soul-pop-pock singer Ruby Rose Fox, of Boston, just released a video for her song “Dance Of Frankenstein.” Her song and video compare the mythic story of Dr. Frankenstein and his creation to exploring America’s relationship with Robert Oppenheimer after the nuclear bomb was created.
With a white wig and facial stitches, intended to remind viewers and listeners of the Bride Of Frankenstein, and a one piece American flag bathing suit to suggest the United States, Fox surrealistically blends the two themes together, on a level that plumbs the depths of the American subconscious.
Other Boston musicians playing on this song include Tony Savarino, John Bragg, and David Brophy. Fox said the idea for this song and video came to her after a long period of time, as she prefers to work slow and steady as opposed to just having ideas pop into her head. The song “Dance Of Frankenstein” will likely appear on Ruby Rose Fox’s upcoming debut full length CD, likely to be released in spring of next year. Ms. Fox hasn’t yet chosen a title for her upcoming album.

In other news:
Grammy award winning composer of children’s music, Christmas music, and creator of a tribute to The Carpenters, Judy Pancoast has just released something completely different: she composed a song called “A Beautiful Thing” which supports marriage equality.
A resident of Goffstown, New Hampshire, Judy Pancoast’s statement when she released her song and video to the world at large: “I am delighted to announce the release of my new song and video, “A Beautiful Thing.” It would be a beautiful thing if all children knew they would be loved and accepted no matter what their sexual orientation. I think this is changing with the younger generation but there is still far too much bullying and taunting and exclusion going on out there. I hope my song can help somehow.” https://youtu.be/NWo938Q-pr8
This song was arranged by Grammy winner Ricky Kej and Vanil Veigas, and the video was produced and directed by Nicole Girard.

Other things to check out:
Bees Deluxe have released a seven song EP titled A Can Of Bees. It has the kind of psychedelic blues bordering on fusion that the band has become regionally famous for.
Bella’s Bartok is a band I recently got a chance to check out live. Their four song EP Don’t Be Yourself features their particular blend of modern rock, German stomp, and Hungarian folk music. Bella Bartok’s manic songs will make you want to visit a German beer hall right away.
Alchemilla continues their mission to bring driving rock music to their Boston music scene and beyond. Their most recent release, a four song EP titled Hearts has got plenty of flinty dual guitars, muscular rhythms, and Kat Burke’s dark, rangy, sultry vocals.
I would also like to turn people on to neo-hippie singer-songwriter Kali Stoddard-Imari. Known by his first name Kali, because he once called himself Young Kali, and his live show, Kali Project, this cat has a mellow sound enriched by acoustic instrumental flourishes. His soulful, folksy vocal fits right in with his acoustic guitar, mandolin, and piano. His debut CD, titled Kali, also features Josh Cohen on electric and acoustic guitars, bass, banjo, mandolin, keyboards, and percussion with Chuck Ferreira on drums.
If like your music live and prefer blues, you might wish to check out Tom Ballerini Big Blues Band this Friday, October 23, at 9:00 p.m. at Strange Brew Tavern in Manchester, New Hampshire.
That’s it for now folks. The only thing left to say is keep listening and viewing.
