Bobby Radcliff sells out Nelson’s Candies in Wilton, New Hampshire

BobbyRadcliffBobby Radcliff sold out all 50 tickets at Nelson’s Candies in only a few days. Backed by the Skip Philbrick Blues Band, the Rynborn legend will take the stage at about 8:00 p.m. after the doors open at 7:00 p.m. While it is too late to purchase tickets to this show on July 3, 2015, New England blues fans should be made aware of this venue in Wilton, New Hampshire so they will not miss out on future shows with other legendary blues performers.

“That sold out last Friday,” owner Doug Nelson said. “It all happened within the last two weeks. This is his second time playing here, and he sold out the first time too.

Nelson loves Radcliff’s blues. “He’s a throwback to Magic Sam, Chicago west side blues,” Nelson said. “He always shows up with a suit and tie on. He plays an EF335 Gibson, and he kicks ass. He’s an approachable, likeable type of guy. He’s actually very humble.”

Using a B.Y.O.B. policy to control the cost of drinking, Nelson’s Candies/Local’s Café, which charges $20 to more depending on the act, has been featuring bands for over ten years. In the last few years, Nelson’s Candies/Local’s Café has been featuring blues bands. Aside from Radcliff, Nelson’s Candies/Local’s Café has hosted, Professor Harp, Willie J. Laws Band, and Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson.

“I’ve never had a blues band in here that wasn’t good,” Nelson exclaimed. “They’re all good. I would rehire anyone that’s ever come through here.” Nelson’s next act will be Shor’ty Billups on August 1.

“I really hope we get a good crowd for that one,” Nelson. “It will be the first time he plays here.”

Nelson’s Candies/Local’s Café has two different sections in its building. One side houses the candy factory and counter where customers can come by during business hours and scoop the amount of candy they need out of counter cases. The other side is a live music venue, with a fairly high ceiling, several rows of chairs, and a fairly sizable stage.

Just yesterday, Nelson’s Candies hosted Granite State Blues Society’s 2015 Blues Challenge. “That went very well, very smooth,” Nelson said.

Nelson believes people enjoy blues at his venue because he matches great blues artists with diehard fans.

“They’re hungry for good blues shows, and they’re finding me one way or another,” he said. “I think they like the fact that it’s a quaint little place. There’s no TV in the background. It’s not a barroom setting where people are already here. The people that come here are coming here to see the artist. It’s like a mini concert. I think that what draws them here is the music itself.”

So, area blues fans, starting looking into this place located at 65 Main Street in Wilton, New Hampshire.
