Uncle Eddies hosting 9th annual Boobfest; seven bands to raise money

Boobfest9UncleEddiesCorrectUncle Eddies Oceanfront Tavern on Salisbury beach will be defenders of the breast once again. Hosting their 9th annual Boobfest, Uncle Eddies, through a ten dollar donation at the door, raffles, and a percentage of the bar, will raise funds for the Boston Avon Walk For Breast Cancer. The event will take place this Saturday, May 9th, from 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Owner Mike Pacheo has lined up seven popular area bands to perform at this fundraiser. Cover bands, a Johnny Cash tribute band, and an originals band will donate their time and their music to Pacheo’s fundraiser event.

“I support the walk,” Uncle Eddies owner Mike Pacheo said, “(so) that we can be a little help, for all the women going through the pain and suffering, mentally and physically, due to breast cancer.”

Lucy Duchesne, lead singer of G4D, who will also be performing at this event, has personal reasons for playing her ninth Boobfest fundraiser.

“I have lost quite a few friends and family to this bastard of a disease,” she said. “I personally did my best to help my grandmother and saw how it takes the life out of a once vibrant person.”

Duchesne said the event has an educational purpose too, putting people in contact with people who have been through the struggle and pointing to valuable sources of information.

“I Believe it helps bring awareness to what breast cancer is and not only woman get it,” she said. “Men do too. It’s great to talk to people who really don’t know much about the disease. It’s a blessing to meet someone who has beat it, and to give hope to those who have it, and to give a shoulder to those who have lost loved ones.”

Duchesne said that people attending Boobfest usually includes those who are fighting cancer, people who have been recently diagnosed, people who have defeated cancer, and people whose cancer is in remission.

“Its such a high to be able to have music,” Duchesne said. “It brings joy and people together.”

For a $10 donation, attendees will get to celebrate an important cause as well as see the following bands: Actin’ Up, A Boy Named Sue, The Brooklyns, Hellbent For Judas, Blackheart, G4D, and Sinister Sister. Here is some information on each act:

ACTIN’ UP is not a band that was thrown together. They were forced together by the music they play, like a hard rock machine just pumping out killer tunes, played by some of the area’s top musicians and vocalists. Coming to an Actin’ Up show is a music driven/guitar and vocal assault backed by thumping drums and bass. Band members have played at venues such as-Hatch Memorial Shell, City Hall Plaza, Hard Rock Cafe-Boston, Fleet Center, Gillette Stadium, Fenway Park, Foxwoods Casino, Lynn Auditorium, Bike Week, Harley Davidson, Uncle Eddies, Chop Shop, Boat House, Green Briar, Last Shot, Bus Stop, TJ Callahan’s, Victoria Station, Maddy’s, Bentley’s Saloon, Vet Fest, BreakHeart Reservation, and many more

A BOY NAMED SUE plays the music from the late, great Johnny Cash. If you’re a fan of his music, then this is the band for you. Check out our official website and look for our coming shows and come have a great time. www.BNSBAND.net

THE BROOKLYN‘S, a 5-piece rock band based in Boston, MA, have just released their second CD “Swords and Lies.” With the strong influences of classic rock mixed with sounds of country rock running through the grooves, this 10 song collection proves that passion, attitude, and solid songwriting make a great album. From the good time feel of “Hand Me Downs,” to the grit of “Stay Alive,” to the harmony soaked title track “Swords and Lies,” the band delivers top-notch songwriting and performance from beginning to end.

Founding members and songwriting team, Maureen “Mo” Kavanaugh and Tom Leger (Sweet Cheater, Black Number Nine, The Fighting Cocks) originally formed The Brooklyns in 2005 as a singer/songwriter combo playing and writing “songs about life” with a passion and fire not often heard from an acoustic duo. Wanting to realize their sound as a full band, they recorded their debut CD “The Brooklyns” in 2008, with the single “Richer” now garnering airplay on both commercial and local radio in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

BoobFest9UncleEddiesAdditionalIn 2009, Jeff Murray (bass), Sean Murray (guitar), both cousins and formerly of Jake and The Jakes, and Rob “Reebo” Tibbs (drums), formerly of Bishop Strike, joined the band. Adding their musical talents to the songwriting team of Kavanaugh/Leger, the band has achieved a sound, paramount in each of their original songs, while paying homage to their love for classic rock, with influences ranging from The Rolling Stones, to Patti Smith, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Tom Petty, to name a few. “It’s like putting on a new pair of jeans and they fit like you’ve been wearing them forever,” says Mo. “It’s only natural for Tom & me to write this way.”

Their new CD, “Swords And Lies,” (2012) is now available on iTunes worldwide, as well as Zune, EMusic, Spotify, Amazon mp3, Google Play, and Rhapsody. The band loves playing live, engaging audiences in numerous venues throughout the New England area. They always dig hanging out with their favorite DJs on the radio, and are now also spending time in the studio writing songs for their 3rd CD.

“The Brooklyns may be named after a beer, which in turn is named after a borough….But they are more like a state of mind!” – The Noise Music New England

HELLBENT FOR JUDAS, the premier New England tribute to the Priest, will also play Boobfest9. Their live show consists of the look and sound of the definitive era of the band. Their set contains all of your favorites as well as deep cuts for hardcore fans.

BLACKHEART, a premier New England hard rock cover act, is a 4 piece, female fronted band. All members combined have over 100 plus years experience playing live rock and roll to thousands of people. Members of Blackheart have played in many area bands such as: Spiral Circus, Metalkat, One Louder, Mönkeywax, Roadhouse, Kobra, Seven Seconds Deep, Monkey Wrench SuperMachine, Guzzle, C-4, Unusual Suspects, and more.

Boobfest9UncleEddiesCorrect2G4D is a local cover band that plays songs from AC/DC to ZZ Top (and all points in between). G4D is completely different from any band you have seen in a while. With the mix of Lucy Duchesne’s vocals, Ed‘s energy and powerful musical talent on guitar, Pauly’s bass, and Scott’s drums, they add more to the rock mix than most. Check out their band for an energy packed night. They keep the dance floor moving.

SINISTER SISTER is a female fronted hard rock/metal cover band with an attitude. Sinister Sister serves up an in your face hard rock/old school metal show that will get you out of your seat. They are a high energy, powerful band with driving vocals and riffs. Our plans are to give the New England cover band scene a dose of kick ass rock and roll.

Sinister Sister is the brainchild of Julie Gravel and Bob “Pick” Pickering. Sinister Sister is setting out to invigorate the local music scene with “concert feel” performances, not only in sheer music volume but with effects and stage persona.
