Nelson’s Candies doubles as blues venue; offering Mr. Nick And The Dirty Tricks April 25

NickNelsonsCandiesWho would’ve ever guessed that a candy store in the middle of New Hampshire would be a music venue? After 12 years of offering music in his Wilton, New Hampshire candy shop, Doug Nelson began presenting blues bands just over two years ago.

After presenting Willie J. Laws Band, Gil Correia Band, Chris Fitz Band, Luther “Guitar Junior” and many other notables from the New England blues scene, Nelson’s Candies at 65 Main Street has become enshrined as a blues Mecca.

Located across the street from Wilton’s historic Town Hall movie theater, Nelson’s Candies becomes, one Saturday night a month, a scene of merriment, with blues musicians, blues fans, and local citizens enjoying a festive B.Y.O.B. party.

Nelson’s Candies charges $20 per most shows and a bit more on specific acts. Patrons make up the difference by not having to spend over $5 a draft, as they do when they see a band inside a bar.

On Saturday April 25th, Nelson’s Candies will present a special night for local blues fans. Mr. Nick and The Dirty Tricks will play their original blues songs and blues standards. Many in the area recall Mr. Nick from his Blues Mafia days, which hit Strange Brew Tavern regularly. Mr. Nick also appeared in a few different formats at the memorable Black Brimmer.

The doors will open at 7:00 p.m. A house band will open this B.Y.O.B. event. 65 Main Street, Wilton, New Hampshire.

Mr. Nick & the Dirty Tricks unites veteran musicians Nick David (a.k.a. Mr. Nick), “Lonely” Gus Carlson, Teddy B. (Bukowski) and Rick Rousseau for one of New England’s most formidable live outfits in any genre. But their hearts belong to blues.

Real blues. They play elegant, stomping and swinging classics by the likes of Little Walter, Howlin’ Wolf and Wynonie Harris and a mix of original rhumbas, jump blues, and boogies they developed for a debut album, and taking their punchy blues style to a growing legion of fans throughout the United States and abroad.

“This band is a killer outfit,” says David, who led the popular and critically acclaimed Mr. Nick’s Blues Mafia. And that’s the truth. Everything comes together when they play: their deep mutual understanding and knowledge of blues, their originality and depth as players, and the band’s ability to put on a great show that brings people to their feet. It’s a blend that wins new converts wherever they perform.
