BillCopelandMusicNews has received the following information about the three day Worcester event: There are performances scheduled throughout the weekend with a stellar lineup that will include Corey Harris, Leo “Bud” Welch, Paul Rishell and Annie Raines and Paul Geremia among others. The Opening Party on Friday will include a members only event featuring Vapors of Morphine (members of Morphine with Jeremy Lyons) from 7-8pm followed by a performance by blues and reggae artist Corey Harris, a MacArthur Fellow who was the featured artist and narrator of the Martin Scorcese film, “Feel Like Going Home,” which traced the evolution of blues from West Africa to the southern U.S. Harris has recently published his first book “Jahtigui: The Life and Music of Ali Farka Toure” the first about the life and music of the Malian music legend.
Saturday will feature 81 year old Gospel Blues artist Leo “Bud” Welch from Sabougla, Mississippi,
whose recording debut was recently released on Fat Possum Records subsidiary Big Legal Mess. For his Massachusetts debut he will be supported by The Cannibal Ramblers, Ten Foot Polecats and Big Jon Short. The music lineup will also include Danielle Miraglia, Brendan Hogan, Rich “AD” Leufstedt, Grade “A” Fancy and Matt Robert.
A Country Blues Summit on Sunday will feature some of the genres’ top artists featuring Blues Music Award winning duo Paul Rishell and Annie Raines, acoustic blues icon and 12 string guitar master Paul Geremia, 2012 Boston Music Award winner Erin Harpe, Marylou Ferrante, Big Jon Short and Zack Slik.
The weekend will also include performances by Short’s students from Worcester Public Schools, Blues in Schools, Ukulele club and Guitars in the Classroom programs.
